Technological Experiences of
Matthew J. Mallory
(Computer and Network)
Bank of New York:
- Part of a 4 person team who built a Windows/Novell Client/Server network in downtown Syracuse. The network consists of…
- 25 Windows XP Professional computers with the Novell client for Windows (Dell GX270’s and HP 530’s)
- 32 printers (HP, IBM and Lexmark)
- 4 servers (Windows 2003 GhostCast Server, IBM Lotus Notes Domino Server and 2 Novell Servers (Zen and Print))
- Solely maintained the above network on a daily basis for almost 1 year to include installing, configuring and uninstalling software and hardware; troubleshooting and fixing hardware and software problems with the servers, workstations and printers.
- Maintained software licensing for 225 computers and ensured all computers only had the authorized software installed.
- Organized and remotely implemented weekly rollouts of all software updates, patches, new versions, etc. via Novell NAL jobs for 6 locations (4 upstate NY, 1 Boston and 1 Toronto) consisting of over 2,000 users.
- Installed Windows XP Professional, used Sysprep and Symantec Ghost to create many images for deployment and disaster recovery.
- Deployed Windows images to many workstations simultaneously via bootable 60 Gig USB hard drives and Symantec GhostCast Server.
- Implemented WOL (Wake on LAN) functionality using Symantec Ghost Console on the LAN with 3 IP segments.
- Installed, configured and upgraded OSLoader, a boot manager, on 13 training room computers splitting the hard drives into 3 partitions allowing multiple images for different training classes all while keeping the other partitions hidden from the users.
- Worked with the other locations Technical Analysts to compile data then created a master Excel Spreadsheet of all the data to be shared and accessed by all TAs.
- Created many step-by-step / how-to guides for many applications and or processes as needed and or requested.
- Ordered replacement parts via a web interface, received and logged replacement parts into inventory, shipped back defective parts via UPS, FedEx and or DHL.
mfactor:
- Designed, installed, configured and implemented numerous peer-to-peer workgroups, Windows domain controlled client/server, 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks.
- Designed, installed, configured and implemented a long distance 802.11b wireless network for a farm in Central New York. The scope of the project was to extend the maximum distance limitations of the 802.11b standard in order to connect 3 buildings onto one LAN so files, printers and the Internet could be shared. This was accomplished by installing 1 omni-directional antenna at home A (which hosted the router and 2 hard wired computers), 2 directional antennas at home B which was 900 feet away from home A and 2 directional antennas at the barn which is 500 feet away from home A. Both home B and the barn have 1 802.11b PCMCIA Card and 1 802.11b PCI card. The network is still running flawlessly after 2 years of operation.
- Installed, configured, upgraded and maintained all forms of computer hardware and software over the past 16 years.
- Configured and implemented many forms of 802.11x wireless security such as MAC address filtering, NAT, WEP, WPA and TKIP.
- Provided sales and service for all aspects of a 56k dialup, ADSL, SDSL, T-1, Satellite and Cable Internet services business.
- Removal of Spyware, Adware and Viruses from many clients’ computers.
- Terminated and Installed Cat5, 5e and 6 Cable as needed.
- Maintained clients systems to ensure they were clean and in good working order by performing frequent preventive maintenance.
- Helped clients with applications like MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, WinZip, and other job related programs.
- Integrate Laptop parts replacement.
- Soldering and un-soldering parts from circuit boards.
Other positions, self taught and or college:
- Configured and maintained Kixtar32 logon script.
- Installed and configured Active Directory 2000 and 2003.
- Installed and configured Exchange Server 2000 and 2003.
- Created and managed user accounts, groups and policies within Active Directory.
- Installed and configured DNS and DHCP services on Windows 2000 and 2003 servers.
- Set up Outlook to work with Exchange Server.
- Set up many copier/printer systems via a print server with a static IP.
